Addressing the topic of handicrafts requires defining its concept, as the process of definition helps identify the beneficiaries of this sector, thereby facilitating the preparation of support programs for these beneficiaries. This also allows for understanding one of the lines of development in countries, through which nations can determine the model or form of economic development they will adopt. Based on this premise, this article aims to discuss the most important concepts used to describe handicraft at the international level, along with an attempt to establish a comprehensive definition that outlines the features of the sector.
