Abstract

The development of biodegradable materials from natural sources, as an alternative to those of fossil origin such as petroleum, has increased in recent decades. In this scenario, polymers obtained from natural sources, such as carrageenan, pectin and starch, are relevant possibilities due to availability, since they are found in agro-industrial residues, fruits or marine animals. In addition, due to the characteristics they present, they can be used for making packaging, and in the biomedical and pharmaceutical areas. However, these natural materials have some limitations in their applicability, as they can suffer interference from the same microorganisms that act on polysaccharides and, in this way, cause changes in their mechanical and physical-chemical properties. Therefore, this work aims to investigate the influence of different types of nanocellulose on the thermal, mechanical and physical-chemical properties of carrageenan, pectin and starch films. Furthermore, it also intends to verify the possibility of making packages from the produced nanocomposite.
