Respostas imunológicas desenvolvidas por gatos com Leucemia felina, causada pelo vírus da Leucemia felina (FELV)

A leucemia felina (FeLV) é causada por um vírus da família Retroviridae do gênero Gammaretrovírus, podendo acometer ocasionalmente os felinos selvagens e também os domésticos. Possui quatro subgrupos: FeLV-A, B, C e T. Sua patogenia é complexa e depende de diversos fatores, mas o principal é o sistema imune do animal. Por ser uma doença imunossupressora, o felino fica susceptível a inúmeras doenças e, por isso, a sintomatologia clínica é extremamente diversificada. Sua transmissão se dá por contato oronasal, transfusão sanguínea ou via leite/placenta. O diagnóstico pode ser realizado com exames como ELISA, IFA e PCR, associados aos sinais clínicos. O tratamento é ineficaz e o animal deve ser tratado de acordo com os sintomas que apresentam. A prevenção da doença deve ser realizada evitando o contato de animais sadios com os contaminados, limpeza do ambiente e testagem dos animais, além da vacinação. O conhecimento dos tipos de resposta imune que o felino pode desenvolver é primordial para um diagnóstico certeiro e, com isso, diminuir a propagação da doença.
