Use of the ovariectomy technique in female marmosets of the Callithrix spp. gender

In Brazil, the surgical sterilization procedures performed in marmosets from the Callithrix spp. gender are relatively common, since these species are particularly popular as pets and the São Paulo State Infrastructure and Environment Secretariat (Secretaria de Infraestrutura e Meio Ambiente do Estado de São Paulo-SIMA/SP) requires that all of them are sterilized before selling. Due to this reality, a study was conducted in order to determine the efficiency of the ovariectomy technique in these procedures, providing means of making the recovery period easier for the patients. This way, thirty females were submitted to the procedure and monitored until they were sold, providing evidence that the technique brings satisfactory results related to the pre, trans e postoperative periods.
