Abstract

The jet flow simulation is extremely relevant in the engineering applications, once it is present in several areas, such as the study of vectorized thrust engines to control the jet flow in rockets and combustion systems. Furthermore, the jet flow study is relevant in the fluid mechanics field, once it has the essence of fluid dynamics, such as free and wall-bounded shear flows, large turbulent structures, their stability and control, and so forth. An alternative is to study the jet flow by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations or laboratory experiments. In this report is study the theory of a single-phase, laminar and tridimensional jet and its mathematical model are presented. The software MFSim, developed by the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory (MFLab) of Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) was used to solve the numerical model. The pressure-velocity coupling solver used is the Fractional Step Method and the linear systems are solved by the Multigrid-Multilevels method. Finally, in order to validate the results, a comparative study between the obtained results and analytical results is performed. As a conclusion, with the results validation, the MFSim software proves to be robust enough to perform high level of performance simulations and return coherent results compared with the continuous solution.
