Two horses of different sexes—an 11-year-old male (410 kg) used for cutting and a 5-year-old female (450 kg), both involved in high-performance athletic activities—presented with acute imbalance and a fall, respectively. Radiographic examination was conducted to investigate the possibility of atlanto-occipital malformation; while this was confirmed, an additional finding was identified that elucidated the neurological clinical picture: occipital condyle asymmetry resembling occipital condyle dysplasia in dogs. This indicates that such malformations may involve an additional significant feature—a radiographic finding not previously reported.
