The aim of this study was to present the electrocardiographic characteristics of the frontal plane hexaxial lead system in adult goats of different breeds. One hundred healthy adult goats, with no requirements regarding breed pattern, were used. Bipolar limb leads (I, II, and III) and unipolar leads (aVR, aVL, and aVF) were recorded with the animals in a quadrupedal standing position. The variables evaluated were mean heart rate (HR), cardiac rhythm, morphology and duration of the P wave, QRS complex, and T wave, duration of the P-R and Q-T intervals, ST-segment leveling, and mean electrical axis of the frontal plane (MEA). Mean heart rate (HR) was 99.9 ± 28.02. Sinus arrhythmia was observed in 43% of the animals studied. Simple ("+" and "-") and biphasic ("+/-" and "-/+") morphological patterns were recorded for PmV and TmV waves, and qRs, Qrs, QR, Qr, QS, R, RS, Rs, rS, and qR patterns were recorded for the QRSmV complex. Amplitude values were consistent with those described in the literature; however, wave and interval durations showed divergences. Based on the data obtained in this study, it is concluded that the frontal plane lead electrocardiographic system (Hexaxial System) is a recording modality with characteristics that compromise parameter standardization because of the marked variability in the parameters studied, preventing its adoption as a reference standard given its limited clinical and experimental applicability; the standardization of electrocardiographic variables in goats should therefore rely on other lead systems.
