This study aimed to evaluate the influence of breed and body position on the cardiac mean electrical axis (MEA) in adult goats, proposing a reference standard for this variable in the species. A total of 100 clinically healthy adult goats (n = 25 per group) were used, including Moxotó, Boer, Parda Alpina, and non-descript breed (NDB) (NDB) animals, both males and females. Electrocardiographic recordings were performed in left lateral recumbency (LLR), right lateral recumbency (RLR), and quadrupedal (standing) position, totaling three recordings per animal. The MEA was determined based on the net amplitude and polarity of the QRS complex in leads I and III, with angle determination using the hexaxial system. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance for independent and paired samples, parametric or non-parametric (P > 0.05), in addition to descriptive frequency analysis. A predominance of MEA values within positive angular intervals (+30° to +180°) was observed, although individual variation occurred among animals and positions. Body position significantly influenced MEA orientation, whereas breed did not show a statistically consistent effect. The quadrupedal position presented lower angular dispersion and is therefore recommended as the most appropriate for standardizing electrocardiographic recordings in goats using the hexaxial lead system, contributing to greater reproducibility of findings.
