Resumo

Introduction:  Solitary specimen of Tanychlamys indica (Godwin-Auster, 1833), alien  indo-Asiatic  pulmonate  terrestrial  gastropod  representative  of  the  family  Ariophantidae,  is found in field (sandbanks environment) for  the  first  time  in  the Maciambú Valley region, South Bay of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina State/ SC, Central Southern Brazil. Objective: Updated general rеᴠiеw about the known reproductive strategies of this introduced species. Methodology: Monitoring specimen under artificial isolated conditions in a "Malaco-terrarium" within a two (2) year period, aiming to answer the next question: ... without the participation of a mate (hermaphrodite sexual crossbreeding) is Tanychlamys indica (Godwin-Austen, 1883) capable of perform acts of “self-fertilization” ?. Results and Conclusions: Kept in this "isolated/ confined" condition for almost two (2) full years (November 2024 - November 2026), the specimen in observation  has shown no signs of "self-fertilization" to this day. A broad review of the malacological technical literature conducted during the period reveals a significant lack/  absence of information related to the supposed "capacity for self-fertilization" in this species. Additional informations  available  about  its  recent  new presence  in  other Brazilian States and the Earth's  American  Ecozones (Nearctic territory of México) is also presented, all obtained through so-called citizen science.
