This study evaluated the zootechnical performance of M. carcinus post-larvae reared at different stocking densities in an aquaculture recirculation system in oligohaline waters, as well as monitoring the physico-chemical variables of the water. Twelve circular polyethylene tanks (1000 L) were used, including three treatments (10, 20 and 40 prawn m-2), each with four replicates for 60 days. Total ammoniacal nitrogen, P-inorganic phosphate, total hardness and conductivity were not within the ideal tolerance range for freshwater prawn cultivation, but did not compromise cultivation. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between the means of the treatments for final weight (0.116 ± 0.015 g; 0.132 ± 0.024 g; 0.108 ± 0.017 g), daily weight gain (0.002 ± 0.000 g; 0.002 ± 0.000 g; 0.001 ± 0.000 g), survival (77.33 ± 15.28 %; 75.00 ± 10.00 %; 79.17 ± 18.43 %), among others. Final biomass was the only zootechnical variable that differed significantly (P < 0.05) between treatments, being higher at a density of 40 prawn m-2 (3.383 ± 0.660 g). Thus, among the densities tested in the study, this one can be recommended as it promotes greater final biomass without harming the prawns zootechnical performance.
