Resumo

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is produced within the central nervous system itself and is therefore an important indicator of problems within it. With this in mind, 100 samples of CSF and serum from horses (male and female) with ataxia, collected between 2019 and 2022, were used for the comparative SAG ELISA test, solely for the diagnosis of Equine Protozoal Encephalomyelitis (EPM) caused by S. neurona. The results showed 21 positive (21/100) and 79 negative (79/100) horses, leading to the conclusion that further analyses could be requested to aid diagnosis and that much knowledge about equine neurology is still lacking.
