Graphene oxide (GO) has attracted considerable attention due to its unique physicochemical properties and its wide range of technological applications. However, conventional methods for GO production, such as the Hummers method, require strong oxidizing agents and generate hazardous chemical waste, raising environmental concerns. In this work, graphene oxide was synthesized via electrochemical exfoliation of graphite in an acidic medium, providing a simpler and more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional chemical oxidation routes. The obtained material was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate its structural, chemical, and morphological properties. The results confirmed the successful formation of graphene oxide, as evidenced by characteristic oxygen-containing functional groups, increased interlayer spacing, and a lamellar, sheet-like morphology. These findings demonstrate that electrochemical exfoliation is an efficient and sustainable approach to producing graphene oxide, highlighting its potential as a greener route to developing graphene-based materials.
