Resumo

This systematic review examined the effects of livestock grazing on native and cultivated pastures with respect to greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation, focusing on CH₄, N₂O, and CO₂. Fifteen articles published between 2019 and 2024 were analyzed, selected from 110 studies identified in the CAPES Journals Portal, Google Scholar, SciELO, PubMed, and Connected Papers, based on rigorous inclusion criteria. The findings indicate that silvopastoral systems are more efficient at mitigating GHG emissions, while high grazing intensities tend to increase them. The integration of grasses and legumes showed promise in reducing N₂O emissions through improved nitrogen retention. Rotational grazing emerged as an effective strategy, lowering emissions while preserving soil health. However, inconsistencies in data collection methods, most commonly involving static chambers and the SF6 tracer technique, highlight the need for standardized evaluation protocols. In conclusion, sustainable management strategies such as integrated systems and rotational grazing present viable options for GHG mitigation in livestock farming, although further studies are needed to refine and consolidate these practices across varied agricultural contexts.
