Resumo

In Rio Grande do Sul (RS), irrigated rice cultivation achieves high productivity with high use of nitrogenous chemical fertilizer (NCF), which is the labor cost item with the greatest impact on rice production costs. Inoculating rice with bacteria for biological nitrogen fixation and plant growth promotion is a technological alternative to reduce NCF use. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of *A. brasilense* (stems Ab-V5 and Ab-V6) in increasing the productivity of irrigated rice by flooding with reduced NCF, in four lowland agroecosystems in RS. In the 2022/23 growing season, field experiments were set up with treatments that included: absence of nitrogen fertilizer and inoculation; nitrogen fertilization recommended for the crop; inoculation with reduced nitrogen fertilization (two levels) combined with *A. brasilense*. Rice productivity, with a reduction of 12 and 30 kg N ha- 1 combined with *A. brasilense*, is superior to grain production with 100% nitrogen fertilizer without inoculation and above the average for this cereal in Rio Grande do Sul. However, the technology was equivalent to an average additional application of approximately 20 kg N ha-1. The N use efficiency of the BRS Pampa CL cultivar was approximately 40 kg grains kg-1 of N applied (110 kg N ha-1) combined with *A. brasilense*. Inoculation of irrigated rice with *A. brasilense* combined with reduced nitrogen fertilizer increases productivity, contributing to low- carbon agriculture.
