Resumo

Bovine papillomatosis is a viral disease that causes warts and skin lesions. Conventional treatments are invasive and have limited efficacy. This study objective was to evaluate different Zebu breeds regarding bovine papillomatosis and the response to homeopathic treatment. A total of 146 Nelore, 11 Brahman, 8 Guzerá, 18 Sindi, and 18 Tabapuã males, aged 18 to 24 months, were used during the National Young Bull Performance Test (PNAT). Four papilloma counts were performed: at entry, day 0, day 28, and day 56, totaling 77 days of confinement. The diet followed an 80:20 roughage-to-concentrate ratio per 60 kg lot, supplemented with 60 g of Papilomazin® (Real H®). A paired t-test (before and after treatment) and an F-test were used to compare breeds and evaluation days (5% significance level). All animals showed smooth, rough, flat, and pedunculated papillomas of varying severity. The reduction in papilloma count was 20.5% in Brahman (p>0.05), and 76.2% in Guzerá, 60.2% in Nelore, 63.1% in Sindi, and 71.2% in Tabapuã (p<0.05). Guzerá and Sindi showed fewer papillomas and greater rusticity compared to Nelore and Tabapuã. Homeopathy demonstrated potential as a non-invasive alternative for the prevention and control of papillomatosis compared to traditional techniques.
