Ectoparasitoses are important diseases in tilapia farming, directly affecting its production. Therefore, it is necessary to know treatments to control parasitic infestations. With the intensification of production, there is a higher incidence of diseases caused by ectoparasites and other pathogens and, consequently, there is an increased demand for hygienic-sanitary control through the implementation of actions to prevent the entry of pathogens, preventing their spread to other production units. Considering these needs, the objective of this study was to test the effect of a treatment using a 0.5 mL L−1 solution of 40% formaldehyde associated with 1% sodium chloride to control ectoparasites of Trichodina sp. and monogeneans in Nile tilapia fingerlings. To carry out the tests, 60 collections were made over a period of one year in a commercial fish farm to produce fingerlings. To determine infestation, the animals were transferred to monitored water tanks by measuring temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity and pH at different points using a multiparameter probe (YSI Professional Plus). All physical-chemical interruptions of the water were within the standards required for fish production. The intensity of parasitic infestation was determined by the mean of the scores before and after treatment. The data were dichotomized and analyzed by the ² test at 5% probability and by calculating the odds ratio. To compare the reductions in scores, the Mann-Whitney test at 5% probability was performed. It was found that the treatment was effective in controlling infestations caused by Trichodina sp. and monogeneans in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings.
