Resumo

The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro effectiveness of different oily formulations of Metarhizium anisopliae to control the immature stages of gastrointestinal helminths in goats. We used feces collected of goats known infected with gastrointestinal nematodes. To evaluate the effect of oily formulations of M. anisopliae on the free-living stages of helminths, we used the quantitative stool culture technique. Each treatment consisted of eight experimental units. A total of 2 g of feces were weighed, placed in plastic cups and covered with 2 mL of each treatment (T2-soybean oil and M. anisopliae, T3-sunflower oil and M. anisopliae, T4-corn oil and M. anisopliae; T5-mineral oil and M. anisopliae; and T1-the control group constituted of water and 3% Tween 80). Treatments remained at room temperature for a period of 10 days for subsequent identification and quantification of the larvae. To evaluate the effectiveness of the formulations, the percentage of larvae reduction was used as a parameter. Obtained data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey test, at 5% significance. A reduction in percentages of larvae of 25.64%; 60.60%; 27.43% and 80.42% were verified in the treatments with soybean oil, sunflower oil, corn oil and mineral oil, respectively. Given these results, it is concluded that the oily formulations of M. anisopliae are capable of reducing the in vitro larval count of gastrointestinal helminths in goats, with mineral oil being the best adjuvant for this purpose.
