Resumo

A phytochemical study was carried on seeds grown from Stevia rebaudiana in the Northwestern Algeria. The main objective of this research is to study the improvement of the growing conditions of these seeds on our lands. On the other hand, a screening, a study of their antioxidant activity, the extraction and evaluation of the antibacterial activity of steviol glycoside were carried to evaluate its therapeutic benefits. These virtues are used in the treatment of: inflammation, type two diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal and dermatological problems. The recycled virtues of this species can be used as organic fertilizer. These experiments revealed that the selected Stevia rebaudiana seeds, aged five years, germinated better than those aged three years. A three-centimeter-high transplant of the young plants was carried at the right time. The growth of Stevia accelerated and its height reached up to forty centimeters. The phytochemical screening of the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana shows its richness in several compounds such as: alkaloids, flavonoids, tannin and saponin. The antioxidant activity results demonstrated the best activity. Extraction and purification of steviol, glycosides, including conventional extractions. After liquid-liquid purification, the decoction method gave the best yield. Steviol glycoside extract has inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus Cereus with slightly inhibitory activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. However, no effects were observed on Klebsiella Pneumoniae. These results reveal that the climate of north of Algeria is also favorable for the cultivation of Stevia. The abundance of these active ingredients gives the plant remarkable pharmacological properties.
