Resumo

The purpose of genetic improvement must be defined for each species and for each population. In general, all economically important characteristics should be included in the breeding objective. Marker-assisted genetic improvement constitutes a feasible solution to the problem. The objective of this review was to know the state of the art of genes related to characters of productive interest, which allow marker-assisted selection (MAS) in the genetic improvement of fish. A documentary-type investigation was carried out in which a review of the state of the art was followed through the critical reading of documents and bibliographic materials of different kinds. The review was emphasized in three types of genes, those for resistance to diseases, the determinants of sex and those for growth hormones and finally the analysis of DNA by microsatellite, all of this in order to identify the genetic factors associated with characters. of productive interest, in this way it is easier to select animals to improve productivity and animal well-being. In conclusion, marker-assisted selection has high potential in breeding programs by reducing the intervals between generations by selecting individuals in very early stages of development.
