Resumo

This study aims to evaluate the antifungal, antibacterial, and synergistic activities of the leaf and flower mixture of the plant Cytisus triflorus. This medicinal plant belongs to the Fabaceae family. The shrub grows spontaneously in Mediterranean regions and appears to be effective in treating various diseases in traditional medicine. The methanolic extract (CrE) was fractionated using a series of solvents with increasing polarity, yielding several fractions (PeE, EAE, ChE, AqE). The antibacterial and synergistic activities were evaluated against ten ATCC bacterial strains using the disk diffusion method. The crude extract (CrE) of Cytisus triflorus was the most active against bacterial strains (Enterococcus faecalis, Salmonella typhimurium, and Staphylococcus aureus) compared to the other extracts, which showed lower activity. In the synergy tests between the different plant extracts, synergistic effects were weak or absent, except for the combinations (CrE + AqE), (ChE + EAE), and (EAE + AqE), which exhibited higher activity against Proteus mirabilis and Escherichia coli. In conclusion, the antibacterial and synergistic activities of the leaf and flower extracts of Cytisus triflorus showed moderate antibacterial effects against some tested strains and no antifungal activity.
