This paper aims to develop a reflection, under a holistic bias on the understanding of Distance Education (EAD) in the first decades of the 21st century. It is intend to reflect on its presence in Brazil in the era of connectivity and ubiquity, established and grounded in the foundations of a Republican and Lay State, at a unique moment, a year that had celebrated 30 years of the promulgation of the Citizen Constitution, in addition to the growing aspirations to dualism and political polarization. From this scenario, we will present perspectives, in addition to their contribution to teaching learning and possibilities for expansion of knowledge and information, a means for the affirmation of diversity and citizenship, a recognition of being a possibility for development and emancipation of subjects. There is a society that is connected by the technologies of information and communication (ICT), each time more effective, making the world a global web, conquering time and space, distances and borders are no longer obstacles, however, in relation to EAD, antagonisms, fears and prejudices, reflected in intolerant positions, demonstrated by faulty acts or pejorative attitudes, rejection and indifference. Therefore, this work intends to reflect and analyze the importance and its role in society. It will be shown that fragmented knowledge coupled with a biased attitude, fueled by superficial opinions tend to contribute to the origin and intensification of prejudices to prejudice their acceptance, to somehow cause remoteness, indifference as to their practice.
