Os tumores estromais gastrointestinais (GISTs) são tumores mesenquimais originados das células de Cajal que expressam o receptor transmembrana da tirosina quinase CD117 compreendem cerca de 1-3 % dos cânceres gastrointestinais primários. Sua incidência é mais frequente no estômago (40-70%) e no intestino delgado (20-50%)
