Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the work of physiotherapists in pain management, as well as evaluate the most effective actions and the performance of patient improvement. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted through an online search of the main scientific databases in English and Portuguese, selecting relevant studies that addressed the different types of pain and the role of physiotherapists. The analysis was conducted carefully, respecting previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Based on the literature analyzed, 12 scientific articles were selected and examined. It was found that, although pain is one of the most common complaints in health services, it is still frequently relativized in various clinical settings. The studies highlight the need for greater appreciation of pain as a subjective experience, in addition to highlighting the importance of more effective, patient-centered therapeutic approaches. Conclusions: Thus, it is observed that pain is still frequently relativized in clinical healthcare practice, which compromises the quality of care provided. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt changes that value active listening and the uniqueness of each patient, thus promoting more humanized and comprehensive care. In this sense, the importance of the physiotherapist's role in pain management is emphasized, through a holistic approach focused on restoring functionality and improving quality of life.
