Osteoplasty of the maxilla for pre-prosthetic purposes is an important surgical technique that is often necessary to guarantee the stability and retention of the prosthesis. The surgical procedure is performed before the dental prosthesis is made and installed, in order to prepare the patient's ridge by improving the appearance of bone and soft tissue. It is important to emphasize that the choice of surgical technique should be made according to the patient's needs, characteristics and clinical conditions. In view of the above, the aim of this study was to describe the surgical treatment of a patient with bone irregularities in the maxilla for subsequent rehabilitation with a total prosthesis. This is a descriptive case report of a patient with bone irregularities in her maxilla, treated by pre-prosthetic surgery. The 50-year-old female patient came to the FIP Campina Grande School of Dentistry Clinic to be assessed for the installation of a dental prosthesis. The intraoral clinical examination revealed bone irregularities in the buccal ridge of the maxilla. The treatment plan therefore consisted of surgical osteoplasty of the total maxilla, for subsequent rehabilitation with a total prosthesis. The results showed that after a 15-day follow-up, satisfactory tissue healing was observed, with no signs of infection or inflammation. It is concluded that surgical osteoplasty of the total maxilla enabled the prosthetic rehabilitation of the patient, providing adaptation of the prosthesis and re-establishment of function and aesthetics.
