Haloperidol no tratamento de delirium em pacientes de unidade de terapia intensiva: uma revisão integrativa de ensasios clínicos randomizados conduzidos em humanos

O delirium é uma síndrome neuropsiquiátrica aguda, comum em adultos idosos, caracterizada por alterações na atenção e cognição. Tradicionalmente, o delirium tem sido considerado um transtorno prevalente em ambientes hospitalares, especialmente em unidades de terapia intensiva (UTI). Esta pesquisa consiste em uma revisão integrativa da literatura na base de dados MEDLINE/PubMed de estudos clínicos randomizados entre janeiro de 2020 e janeiro de 2025. No total, 2.487 pacientes foram analisados. Todos os estudos eram ensaios clínicos randomizados, comparando a eficácia do haloperidol no manejo do delirium em adultos internados em UTI. Os resultados sugerem que o haloperidol não reduz a mortalidade de curto ou longo prazo, mas encurta significativamente a duração da internação na UTI em comparação ao placebo. Não há evidências robustas de que o haloperidol reduza a incidência ou a duração do delirium em pacientes críticos.
