Humanization in critical patient care within Intensive Care Units (ICUs) is essential to provide patient-centered care, respecting dignity and emotional needs. This study aims to identify, analyze, and synthesize the tools used for the humanization of critical patient care and assess their impact on intensive care through an integrative literature review. Searches were conducted in the PubMed, SciElo, and Lilacs databases using descriptors such as "Humanization of Care," "Health Strategies," "Critical Care," and "Intensive Care." Articles published between 2014 and May 2024, available in full text, were included. The study selection was assisted by the Rayyan software, following PRISMA criteria. The results highlight tools such as therapeutic toys, toy libraries, effective communication, personalized care, emotional and psychological support, and the creation of a welcoming environment. These tools contribute to improved care quality, greater patient and family satisfaction, shorter hospital stays, and fewer complications. Ongoing implementation of humanized practices and continuous healthcare professional training are essential for improving ICU care.
