Implicaciones sistémicas y bucales del cigarrillo electrónico

Antecedentes. La adicción al tabaco es un problema importante de salud pública, sin embargo, es considerada dentro de las principales causas de mortalidad que son prevenibles. Actualmente el consumo de cigarrillo electrónico con o son dispensadores de nicotina ha aumentado progresivamente a nivel mundial, siendo la edad de mayor prevalencia entre los 14 y 18 años, la controversia radica entre las amenazas y oportunidades que el mismo representa. Dentro de las principales repercusiones a nivel sistémico se evidencian trastornos a nivel cardiovascular, respiratorio, digestivo, genital e inmunitario. Por otra parte, las patologías bucales son principalmente las enfermedades periodontales y el cáncer oral. Objetivo. Determinar las principales implicaciones sistémicas y bucales a causa del consumo habitual del cigarrillo electrónico. Metodología. Revisión de la literatura de tipo scoping review con metodología PRISMA y estrategia de búsqueda PICO, utilizando la base de datos PUBMED. Conclusión. En conclusión, las nuevas tendencias tabáquicas cada vez adquieren mayor popularidad debido a la falta de conocimiento respecto a los efectos adversos debido a sus componentes químicos, los cuales presentan altos índices de toxicidad.
