O cuidado em saúde da população transgênero tem ganhado cada vez mais destaque dentro dos espaços de discussão sobre saúde, evidenciando-se as particularidades e desafios de se oferecer um cuidado inclusivo e integral para essas pessoas. Este trabalho propõe uma revisão não-sistemática e crítica da literatura, discorrendo sobre os principais tópicos que podem concernir ao médico generalista sobre saúde trans, tanto em aspectos teóricos quanto práticos. Encontrou-se uma literatura relativamente rica sobre o tema, especialmente sobre a patologização da diversidade de gênero, a vulnerabilidade em saúde intrínseca à essa população e a estruturação dos serviços de transição de gênero, com suas exigências e protocolos rígidos. Percebe-se, no entanto, a falta de evidências mais robustas sobre aspectos mais práticos da hormonioterapia e das cirurgias de afirmação de gênero, como prevalência de efeitos adversos e complicações.
