Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of green economy indicators on sustainable development in Algeria over the period 2000–2023, using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach and the Error Correction Model (ECM) to examine short-run and long-run dynamic relationships. Green economy indicators are represented by carbon emissions from fossil fuels, renewable energy consumption, and energy use efficiency, while sustainable development is expressed through adjusted net national income. The results show that carbon emissions are positively associated with sustainable development, whereas renewable energy consumption exhibits a negative effect, while energy use efficiency contributes positively in both the long and short run, with deviations being automatically corrected at a rate of 42% per year. The study points to the need to enhance resource efficiency, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and stimulate innovation in order to ensure balanced sustainable development..
